A guide to Vitamin C

Not all vitamin C products are equal.

Vitamin C is a superstar ingredient when it comes to skincare with numerous benefits for the consumers who opt for products that include it. From minimising spots and increasing radiance to reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, this well-established hero ingredient is a must have for a youthful and healthy skin.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant. Antioxidants work by binding and neutralising reactive oxygen species preventing oxidative damage to cells and tissues and when it comes to your skin it means that they protect it from potential oxidative damage. The problem however is that antioxidants like vitamin C during this process become oxidized themselves losing their potency.

Here comes in play the type of Vitamin C used in skincare. The most common form of it is the direct one - L ascorbic Acid- which even being the most potent, it has the tendency to oxidise fast and lose its effectiveness when it comes in contact with oxygen. Additionally, more sensitive skins may not tolerate high concentrations well leading in irritation.

After a lot of experimentation we came up with a formulation which combines two novel forms of vitamin C incorporated into a biphasic water-free system. Our biphasic serum includes Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, an etherified form of vitamin C and Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate an oil soluble version supported by Vitamin E for enhanced antioxidant action.
